ANSI – Standards Development

The Automotive Lift Institute, Inc. (ALI) is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an Accredited Standards Developer (ASD). It is the policy of ALI to comply with the guidance offered in the “ANSI Essential Requirements: Due Process Requirements for American National Standards”. These requirements apply to activities related to the development of consensus for approval, revision, reaffirmation, and withdrawal of American National Standards (ANS).

In the Institute’s role as an Accredited Standards Developer, the Automotive Lift Institute is charged with overseeing the standards development related activities of three American National Standards. The following is a list of those standards accompanied by a current summary of their development cycle status.

ANSI/ALI ALCTV: 2011 – “Standard for Automotive Lifts – Safety Requirements for Construction, Testing and Validation”

This standard covers the safety requirements for the construction, testing, and validation of automotive lifts.

  • June 8, 2015 Project Initiation Notification (PINS) sent to American National Standards Institute
  • June 19, 2015 PINS to appear in American National Standards Institute Standards Action

ANSI/ALI ALOIM:2008 (R2013) – “Standard for Automotive Lifts – Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance”

This standard covers the safety requirements for the operation, inspection and maintenance of installed automotive lifts.

  • December 4, 2013 – Re-affirmed standard was approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
  • June 4, 2014 – Reaffirmed standard became effective replacing ANSI/ALI ALOIM:2008

This standard covers the safety requirements for the operation, inspection and maintenance of installed automotive lifts.

  • July 1, 2014 Project Initiation Notification (PINS) sent to American National Standards Institute
  • July 18, 2014  PINS appeared in American National Standards Institute Standards Action

ANSI/ALI ALIS: 2009 – Standard for Automotive Lifts – Safety Requirements for Installation and Service

This standard covers the safety requirements for the installation and service of automotive lifts.

  • October 20, 2009 – The 2009 edition of this standard was approved by the American National Standards Institute.
  • April 20, 2010 – The 2009 version became effective on April 20, 2010.

  • October 17, 2013 Project Initiation Notification (PINS) sent to American National Standards Institute
  • November 1, 2013 PINS appeared in American National Standards Institute Standards Action
