Automotive Lift Institute Appoints Executive Vice-President

AUTOMOTIVE LIFT INSTITUTE APPOINTS EXECUTIVE VICE-PRESIDENT

 Indialantic Fl—January 05, 2005— R. W. (Bob) O’Gorman has joined the Automotive Lift Institute Inc. (ALI) as Executive Vice President in the company’s Indialantic headquarters.

Auto Lift InstituteIn this position, O’Gorman will be responsible for the successful implementation and management of all operations associated with the organization as it prepares for a change in leadership. Current President E.K. (Chic) Fox, who announced his plans to retire to the Board of Directors and at the Institute’s Membership Meeting in April of 2004, has served the Automotive LiftInstitute for 43 years.

Fox is quoted as saying “I have worked closely with Bob on the ALI Lift Certification Program and feel he is an excellent choice. From his attendance at many ALI meetings, he has become familiar with the overall goals of ALI and has developed a rapport with the Key Delegates at the member companies. This experience will enable us to implement a smooth transition in the management of ALI”.

“I have known Bob for more than 6 years and recognize that he is a valuable addition to our team”, said Board Chairman Gary Kennon, “Bob’s international experience coupled with his product safety and standards writing activities will help the Automotive Lift Institute to further meet the growing needs of the lift industry as well as our member companies around the world.”

O’Gorman brings to ALI more than 19 years of experience in product safety and standards development activities for a wide range of industrial life safety and consumer products. Most recently, he held dual positions as both the General Manager and the Global Account Manager with Intertek Testing Services NA where he was involved in leading the re-structure and implementation of Product Certification, Testing, and Inspections Services associated with one of the largest DIY retailers in North America.

A background which includes a Mechanical Engineering Technology Degree and Executive Management training from both UCLA and the University of Michigan, O’Gorman has actively participated in the National Fire Protection Association Standards Development Processes supporting Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, PASS Devices, Rescue Tools, and Fire Service Protective Helmets. Additional standards development activities have included ASTM F08, consensus reviewer activities for BIFMA and ANSI standards, and the ASTM International Committee for Consumer Products.

The Automotive Lift Institute Inc, is an ANSI Accredited Certification Program Sponsor originally founded in 1945. This year as it celebrates 60 years of service to the lift industry and its member companies, ALI continues to maintain automotive lift safety as its primary activity and currently sponsors the national standard ANSI/ALI ALCTV-98 “Automotive Lifts – Safety Requirements for Construction, Testing, and Validation“.
