Standards

The Automotive Lift Institute, Inc. (ALI) is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a Standards Development Organization (SDO). It is the policy of ALI to comply with the guidance offered in the “ANSI Essential Requirements: Due Process Requirements for American National Standards”. These requirements apply to activities related to the development of consensus for approval, revision, reaffirmation, and withdrawal of American National Standards (ANS).

In the role as an accredited Standards Development Organization, the Automotive Lift Institute is charged with overseeing the Standards Development related activities of three American National Standards. The following is a list of those standards accompanied by a current summary of their development cycle status.

ANSI/ALI ALCTV-2011 - "Standard for Automotive Lifts – Safety Requirements for Construction, Testing and Validation"

  • December 20, 2011 - the 2011 version (ANSI/ALI ALCTV-2011) of this standard was approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
  • This standard replaced the 2006 edition on June 20, 2013.
  • Request for Interpretation (TI-12-001) - Formal Response
  • Request for Interpretation (TI-13-001) - Formal Response
  • Request for Interpretation (TI-13-002) - Formal Response
  • Request for Interpretation (TI-13-003) - Formal Response

ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2008 - "Standard  for Automotive Lifts – Safety Requirements for  Operation, Inspection and Maintenance"

This standard covers the safety requirements for the operation, inspection and maintenance of installed automotive lifts.  

  • March 24, 2008 - The 2008 version of this standard was approved by the American National
    Standards Institute.
  • The 2008 version became effective on September 24, 2008.
  • March 09, 2012 - Submitted Project Initiation Notification System (PINS) to begin review
  • March 23, 2012 - PINS Announcement published in ANSI’s Standards Action
  • June 5, 2013 - Project changed from a Revision to a Reaffirmation
  • June 24, 2013 – BSR8 submitted to ANSI
  • July 5, 2013  - Public Comment Period Begins
  • July 12, 2013 - Consensus Body Vote Begins
  • September 3, 2013 – Public Comment Period Ends
  • September 10, 2013 - Consensus Body Voting Period Ends
  • December 4, 2013 – Re-affirmed standard was approved by ANSI
  • June 20, 2014 – Reaffirmed standards becomes effective
  • June 20, 2014 – Standard designation becomes: ANSI/ALI ALOIM:2008 (R2013)

ANSI/ALI ALIS - 2009 – Standard for Automotive Lifts – Safety Requirements for Installation and Service

This standard covers the safety requirements for the installation and service of automotive lifts. 

  • October 20, 2009 - The 2009 edition of this standard was approved by the American National Standards Institute.
  • April 20, 2010 - The 2009 version became effective on April 20, 2010.
