Position: Project Engineer

Location: Cortland, NY US

 

Position Description: ALI is currently seeking a project engineer to join our team to support automotive and vehicle lift safety here in North America. This position will report directly to ALI’s President and will involve working side by side with our engineer, management team, and engineers from the major testing laboratories here in North America and manufacturing engineers supporting the design and testing of automotive lift and parking systems made throughout the world.

This position requires strong organizational and analytical skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Tasks will include analyzing test data, stress calculations and design drawings. Must be familiar with ANSI/ALI standards or similar product safety requirements. The successful candidate shall have excellent writing skills to support technical memos and white papers, and shall directly represent ALI at industry technical meetings and trade shows. This position will involve working primarily at ALI’s office and Liftlab in Cortland, NY but also requires occasional travel to witness product testing or to attend industry meetings allowing interaction with customers and users. Successful candidates shall immediately assume project leadership roles and key account activities.

The Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) is recognized as the leading product certification and automotive lift safety advocate for the North American Industry. The organization’s mission is to promote the safe design, construction, installation, inspection, and use of automotive lifts.

Responsibilities

  • Support the engineering and technical needs of Senior Engineering, Executive Management, Marketing, Manufacturing Members, Lift Inspectors, Code Enforcement, and industry end users
  • Analyze test data and test reports to determine compliance
  • Assume technical responsibility for parking and storage systems standards activities
  • Lead and train entry-level engineers and non-technical staff
  • Support other technical tasks as may be required

Position Requirements

  • This position requires a minimum of 5 years of electrical and mechanical experience. Candidates familiar with automotive lift or parking and storage systems are preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required (Mechanical, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical, or Electrical Engineering Technology).
  • The successful candidate must be self-motivated, client-focused, goal oriented, and able to lead teams to the best option through strong communication and teamwork.
  • Excellent verbal, computer, and written communication and the ability to be comfortable interacting with customers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction while also possessing a strong command of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Approximately 5% planned percent travel, mostly domestic
