Counterfeit Lift Inspection Labels Found in Utah

Lift Inspector

CORTLAND, NY – (October 29, 2021) The Automotive Lift Institute, Inc. (ALI), an ANAB accredited product certification body (Accreditation ID# 0584), hereby makes public announcement that counterfeit lift inspection labels have been found in Utah.

Rich’s Shop Equipment, Inc. was a Participant in ALI’s Lift Inspector Certification Program, however, at the time of this Buyer Beware posting, the company has no inspectors on staff certified by ALI and was NOT authorized to infer compliance by depicting and referencing ALI’s ANAB accreditation number as displayed on the image below. As of this Buyer Beware posting, ALI’s agreement with the responsible company has been terminated for cause.

The label bears a serial number (160013976) of an ALI annual inspection label assigned to an ALI certified inspector in 2016 and depicts inspection services performed in 2021 to a withdrawn industry safety standard that is no longer appropriate for use. The label depicted misrepresents the inspection services provided as representing an accredited certification program.

Use of ALI’s ANAB accreditation number and changing the verbiage from “ALI Lift Inspector” to “All Lift Inspector” on a copycat inspection label unethically leads shop owners, service technicians, Department of Transportation inspectors, and Occupational Health and Safety officials to believe that an inspection supported by ALI has occurred. The fraudulent labels depicted in this Buyer Beware resemble ALI’s copyrighted annual inspection label but have been applied outside of the requirements of ALI’s program. Representation of ALI’s unique ANAB accreditation number on labels such as the one in the image presented above is not authorized. Automotive lifts bearing the label depicted should have this label removed immediately, and the lift should be re-inspected by a qualified lift inspector to ANSI/ALI ALOIM2020, the current edition of the withdrawn standard referenced on the label shown.

As of this notice, there have been no reports of damage or injury presented to ALI related to this counterfeit inspection service. Consumers with lifts bearing these labels (depicted above) are advised to contact ALI immediately. ALI continues to promote the safe design, construction, installation, inspection, and use of automotive lift products. The integrity of the ALI annual inspection label and the ALI Certified Inspector mark are of paramount importance.
