Fraudulent Lift Certification Label Applied in California

CORTLAND, NY – (December 11, 2025) The Automotive Lift Institute, Inc. (ALI), an ANAB-accredited product and services certification body (Accreditation ID #0584), hereby announces that fraudulent automotive lift certification labels have been discovered in the State of California.

This issue was discovered when an ALI Certified Inspector visiting one such facility initiated an inquiry, which confirmed the presence of a counterfeit ALI certification label and the unauthorized use and alteration of ALI intellectual property. J&F Hydraulic Service in Hayward, CA is not affiliated with ALI in any capacity and, as of the date of this notice. J&F Hydraulic Service is not authorized to modify or apply ALI’s certification labels.

ALI’s position is unequivocal: these actions are unethical and misleading. They falsely suggest to shop owners, service technicians, Department of Transportation, and Occupational Health and Safety officials that an ALI-supported inspection has taken place. This fraudulent label has bigger implications for Health and Safety in that it misuses ALI’s gold certification label, an official mark indicating a lift has been tested to national safety standards through an OSHA recognized Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). No party other than the lift’s original equipment manufacturer (OEM), who is required to be a Participant in ALI’s Lift Certification Program and is listed by the NRTL, is permitted to apply this label.

Automotive lifts bearing the label depicted should have this label removed immediately, and the lift should be re-inspected by a qualified lift inspector.  

At this time, ALI has not received any reports of damage or injury related to this fraudulent activity. However, individuals or businesses with lifts bearing the labels depicted above should contact ALI without delay.
