The Automotive Lift Institute, Inc. (ALI) is accredited by the American National Standards Institute
(ANSI) as a Standards Development Organization (SDO). It is the policy of ALI to comply with
the guidance offered in the “ANSI Essential Requirements: Due Process Requirements for
American National Standards”. These requirements apply to activities related to the development
of consensus for approval, revision, reaffirmation, and withdrawal of American National Standards
(ANS).
In the role as an accredited Standards Development Organization, the Automotive Lift Institute is charged with overseeing the Standards Development related activities of three American National
Standards. The following is a list of those standards accompanied by a current summary of their
development cycle status.
ANSI/ALI ALCTV-2006 - "Standard for Automotive Lifts – Safety Requirements for Construction, Testing and Validation"
This standard covers safety requirements for the construction, testing, and validation of automotive lifts of the following types: manually driven, power driven, stationary and mobile.
- November 4, 2007 - This standard replaced withdrawn American National Standard ANSI/ALI ALCTV-1998.
- Request for Interpretation (TI-07-001) - Formal Response
- Request for Interpretation (TI-07-002) - Formal Response
- Request for Interpretation (TI-08-001) - Formal Response
ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000 - "Standard for Automotive Lifts – Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance"
This standard covers the safety requirements for the operation, inspection and maintenance of installed automotive lifts.
- March 24, 2008 - The 2008 version of this standard was approved by the American National
Standards Institute.
- The 2008 version will become effective on September 24, 2008.
- On September 24, 2008 the ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000 will be withdrawn.
ANSI/ALI ALIS-2001 - "Standard for Automotive Lifts - Safety Requirements for Installation and Service"
This standard covers the safety requirements for the installation and service of automotive lifts.
- A Project Initiation Notice (PINS) Form was filed with ANSI on September 20, 2006.
- Notification of PINS was published in ANSI’s “Standards Action Update” on October 6, 2006.
