ANSI/ALI ALIS: 2009 (R2015) Standard for Automotive Lifts – Safety Requirements for Installation and Service
American National Safety Standard Governing Lift Installation and Service throughout North America
Car lift safety includes proper installation and regular service of the lift to ensure that it operates correctly. ANSI/ALI ALIS “Safety Requirements for Installation and Service” is the automotive lift safety standard governing lift installation and service in North America. It applies to car lifts, truck lifts, automotive hoists and vehicle lifts.
The ANSI/ALI ALIS standard provides guidance to the installer and service technician for the installation and service of automotive lifts, including outlining the necessary qualifications, training, reporting and documentation for installers and service personnel. The standard also includes an appendix containing templates of an installer training log, installation report, planned service log and repair service log to help owners or employers document compliance with this standard.
Basic topics covered include:
- Planning considerations such as placement, concrete work, foundations, soil conditions and regulatory compliance.
- Installer qualifications, training and responsibilities.
- Planned service procedures, qualifications, training, documentation and frequency.
- Repair service procedures, qualifications, training, documentation and frequency.
Note: Always refer the lift manufacturer’s installation and service procedures for specific guidance for your lifts.
This version of the standard took effect June 15, 2016 and represents the reaffirmation of the 2009 edition. The American National Standards Institute, Inc. (ANSI) approved this standard on December 15, 2015. Approval requires verification by ANSI that the requirements for due process, consensus, and other criteria for approval have been met by the standards developer. ALI is the ANSI Accredited Standards Developer* and sponsor of ANSI/ALI ALIS, as well as its companion standards ANSI/ALI ALOIM “Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance of Automotive Lifts,” and ANSI/ALI ALCTV “Safety Requirements for Construction, Testing and Validation.”
The standard is available in print only and is 25 pages.
